Hallo Linda, I just got a cost plan for a short implant at 16. The problem is that I lost the ultrashort Straumann implant today. Should I look for a different manufacturer? Must I wait before I can try a new implant?
Dear Sarah,
I hope this message finds you well. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your Straumann implant. I understand that this situation can be distressing, but please rest assured that we are here to guide you through the process.
As for your questions:
- Regarding the choice of a new manufacturer: It’s not necessary to switch manufacturers just because one implant was lost. Straumann is a reputable company known for the quality of their dental implants. However, it’s always good to discuss your concerns with Dr. Truppe. He can consider other reputable manufacturers like Nobel Biocare, Dentsply Sirona, or Zimmer Biomet, depending on your specific needs and condition.
- About the timeline for a new implant: Typically, the area where the implant was lost needs to heal before a new one can be placed. The healing time can vary from person to person, and it depends on several factors like your overall health, the condition of your jawbone and gums, and whether any infection was present. On average, it might take a few months. But again, Dr. Truppe will be able to give a more accurate timeline after evaluating your case.
Remember, it’s essential to maintain optimal oral hygiene during this period to promote healing and prevent any complications.
It’s also important to note that while the loss of an implant is disappointing, it’s not uncommon. Dental implants have a high success rate, but there can be instances where they fail. Factors such as smoking, poor oral hygiene, and certain chronic diseases can affect the longevity of an implant.
Moreover, your medical history indicates that you have hypothyroidism, which is managed with Levothyroxine. There is some evidence suggesting that hypothyroidism might affect bone health, which could potentially influence implant success. However, more research is needed in this area.
You also have occasional cold sores, which are caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus. Active cold sores in the mouth can potentially cause complications during any oral surgery, including implant placement. If you have an active cold sore, it’s crucial to inform Dr. Truppe before any procedure.
Also, although your tooth implant was placed while you were on vacation in Austria, and we don’t have all the details, the implant’s serial number (ZZZ-13-FGTA) allows us to track its lifecycle and provide more personalized care.
Please feel free to reach out to our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Truppe. He can assess your specific situation and offer the best advice regarding the next steps.
I hope this information has been helpful, Sarah, and I want you to know that we are here to support you through this process.
Kind regards,
Linda Lee Beighle
